At BeGiftee, privacy isn't an option: it's a foundational principle.

1. Data controller

The data controller for your personal data is:

BeGiftee is currently a personal project without a legal entity.

2. What data we collect

We only collect the data necessary for the service to work:

Account data

  • Name (to display on your profile)
  • Email (for notifications and authentication)
  • Birthday (to display on your profile and notify your friends when it's approaching)

Gift profile data

  • Products, interests, and wishes you add yourself
  • Optional preferences (price ranges, sizes, etc.)

Technical data

  • Session token stored locally (JWT in localStorage)
  • Basic navigation data within BeGiftee

We don't collect browsing data outside BeGiftee, external purchase information, or data sold or shared by third parties.

3. How we use your data

Your data is used exclusively to:

  • Show your gift profile
  • Allow others to see your wishes (according to your visibility settings)
  • Generate personalized suggestions and recommendations
  • Improve the experience within BeGiftee

What we will NEVER do:

  • Sell your personal data
  • Create commercial profiles to sell to third parties
  • Share information for advertising purposes
  • Use your data outside the context of BeGiftee

4. Use of artificial intelligence

BeGiftee uses artificial intelligence technology to improve your experience:

  • Classify and interpret what you write (specific product, general interest, etc.)
  • Suggest ideas related to your tastes
  • Enrich product information

AI never decides for you. All suggestions require your confirmation. When content has been generated with AI help, we indicate it visibly.

For these features, we use third-party services (OpenRouter) that process the necessary data to generate responses. These services don't store your data permanently.

5. Third-party services

BeGiftee uses the following external services to function:

SearchAPI

Product search and information. Search queries are sent to obtain product data.

OpenRouter

AI services for intent classification and suggestions. Processes text you enter to improve the experience.

Affiliate links

When you buy through a sponsored link, BeGiftee may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

We don't share personally identifiable data with these services beyond what's strictly necessary for their operation.

6. Storage and security

  • Server location: Hetzner, Germany (European Union)
  • External processing: Some AI services may temporarily process data on servers outside the EU
  • Security: We apply technical and organizational measures to protect your data

Data is stored for as long as necessary to provide the service. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

As a user, you have the right to:

  • Access: Know what data we have about you
  • Rectification: Correct incorrect data
  • Erasure: Delete your account and all your data
  • Portability: Obtain a copy of your data
  • Objection: Object to certain processing
  • Restriction: Restrict the use of your data

You also have the right to file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) if you believe your rights have not been respected.

8. Cookies and local storage

BeGiftee only uses essential technical storage:

localStorage (browser local storage)

We store a session token (JWT) to keep you logged in. This data remains on your device and is not shared with third parties.

We don't use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or social media cookies.

In the future, if we implement analytics, we will use privacy-respecting solutions that don't require additional consent.

9. Minors

For minors under 14: We recommend that use be done under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who may exercise rights on their behalf.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy occasionally. When we make significant changes:

  • We will update the "last updated" date at the top
  • If the changes are substantial, we will notify you by email or through a visible notice on the platform
